Materials and placement stages
Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory; composite veneers are shaped from tooth-coloured material. Suitability, preparation and repair options differ. This explains general options, not a promise that every material is offered for your case.
- Examine teeth, gums and bite and discuss alternatives.
- Agree on material, shade and any tooth preparation. Enamel removal is permanent.
- For a lab-made veneer, record the tooth shape and plan any temporary restoration.
- Check fit, shape and bite, then bond the veneer and arrange review.
Visits, upkeep and possible problems
Lab work may require separate appointments; composite may involve fewer visits. Ask for your own visit plan, not a fixed package timeline. Veneers can chip, loosen, wear or need repair or replacement. Decay can still develop around them. Brush with fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth and avoid biting hard objects. Discuss grinding and any protective appliance with your dentist.

Questions worth bringing to your visit
What would you like to change? Which teeth are involved? Have you had whitening or other restorations? Dr. Feril Mehta can examine your smile and explain which options may be suitable for your case.
Understand the trade-offs first
A veneer covers the front surface of a tooth. Veneer treatment may involve permanent changes to tooth structure and later maintenance or replacement. Ask how much preparation your case would require, what alternatives exist, and how the proposed result may vary.
Questions to ask
Do veneers always require tooth preparation?
The amount of preparation depends on the tooth and the planned restoration. Some approaches change tooth structure permanently; ask the dentist to explain your specific plan and alternatives before proceeding.
Are veneers right for me?
That cannot be decided from photos alone. Your dentist must examine your oral health, bite and goals.
